Two Adorable Labs Celebrating Independence Day

Jul 4, 2019 | Holiday, Maggie Lane Designs

This is a re-post and update:

Last year we celebrated July 4th with family.  We had a blast celebrating it with the pups and family.  It was a great day surrounded by the people we love.  We cooked on the grill…well, actually our cousin cooked for us on the grill (because he is an awesome grill master) and we enjoyed steak, shrimp skewers, green beans, and salad.  I also made my mother’s macaroni salad and a side of sautéed portobello mushrooms and onions for the steak.

What does July 4th mean to you?

Independence Day, also called Fourth of July or July 4th, in the United States, the annual celebration of nationhood. It commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.  It also means a time to celebrate with friends and family, enjoy some good food, and decorate!  As I get older, I love seeing all of the patriotic red, white, and blue!  I’ll be sure to post my patriotic table for you next week!

Follow along for ideas on how to celebrate this July 4th, menu/recipes, and tablescape ideas!  And remember, keep your pets safe and happy during this holiday.  There will be loud booms and crazy colors that can upset your fur baby!

Here are some fun ways to celebrate July 4th and show your patriotism!

#1.  Make a red, white, and blue dessert!
#2.  Wear your red, white, and blue!
#3.  Put up a flag in front of your house
#4.  Add a patriotic wreath on your door
#5. Go see a fireworks show
#6.  Create a patriotic drink for your guests to enjoy at your picnic
#7.  Visit an historic landmark
#8.  Volunteer in your community
#9.  Donate to your favorite charity.  We support Tunnel2Towers and give a monthly donation.
#10.  Build and sew your own flag.  When I lived in Missouri, I took an interior design class at the local community college.  Our final project was to write about a piece of history and clothing/material.  I chose the American Flag and got an A+!
#11.  Create an elaborate meal or keep it simple.  This year we are enjoying Juicy Onion Mushroom Burger and homemade sweet tea.  I’m also making my Salt and Pepper and Parmesan/Garlic Wing recipes from my Sit, Stay, Eat Cookbook.

I couldn’t wait to put my red, white, and blue Lays on the dogs that I bought at the Dollar General.  I found 2 for a $1.00 which was perfect because I knew they wouldn’t last long.  I was right…I had to take them off after pictures because they were about to strangle themselves with them!  The pictures were a tad bit hard to take because they were so excited and curious to see what was around their necks.  This is a play-by-play of what it was like taking pictures of Jake and Maggie celebrating their second July 4th with us.
Note:  This year I will have Jake And Maggie decked out in a fabulous flower and tie from The Pampered Pooches and handmade bandanas found on Instagram.
