Two Adorable Labs has a new look!

Two Adorable Labs has a new look!

I’ve been hinting about new changes with Two Adorable Labs and I can finally show you!!! Check out our new logo and new look by Kaila Piepkow at www.dox.design.

Kaila has been amazing to work with. She took her time in getting to know me, my vision for the brand I wanted to create and my style first before jumping right into the job. Her process is organized, well thought out, educational, and she is patient especially with clients like myself who are first timers. Her and her staff were on-time, if not early, in completing my requests.

There are three very important members of her staff…her three adorable weens…her Doxins…Finley Piepkow – Secretary Ween, Ferb Piepkow- Chief Secretary Ween, and Felix Piepkow – Office Intern Ween who I had the pleasure of meeting during our web meetings.

I knew in my first meeting with Kaila, she would be loyal to me, smart in helping me create my logo and design, and help educate me in pushing my vision for Two Adorable Labs to new levels. I would like to thank you, Kaila, for helping me and look forward to our future plans for Two Adorable Labs!

We will be working on a monthly newsletter and providing my new Pet Travel Guide when you subscribe.

I would like to thank Salene Mazur Kraemer Photography for their quality photography, patience, and fast timing in taking and processing the professional photos of me, Jake, and Maggie for my new website! It was Jake and Maggie’s first time at a professional photo shoot and they did amazing!

Sincerely,
Bobbi Jo, Jake, and Maggie

Responsible dog breeders use simple genetic cheek swabs to look for hidden conditions that may have found their way into a breed.  If the dog is a carrier, then they will be bred with a clear dog.  This preserves the breed while ensuring that puppies are free of known genetic problems.  Irresponsible breeders want to make a buck, breed the...

My Question and Answer yesterday sparked some interest with readers on another subject "Do Dogs Dream" and so I thought I'd put together another Q & A!  I've always believed that animals dream just like we do.  I've also believed that a dreaming dog should be left alone to wake up on his own.  Who wants to be woken out of a dead sleep for...

Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue

Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue

Have you ever been so touched and inspired by a story that you wanted to tell the world about it?  It is so easy to take the blessings we have for granted and get so engrained in our day-to-day stuff.  Sometimes I feel that I should be doing more.  As you know my passion is for the animals and my Instagram page is full of adorable animals, small...

Signs Of Dementia In Dogs

Signs Of Dementia In Dogs

This time of year, there are so many animals sitting in shelters.  It breaks my heart because so many of us want the puppy, the younger dog, because they are healthier, less trips to the vet, less maintenance, but what about those senior dogs waiting for their forever home.  What we don’t see is all the love older pets can give.  What we also...

Prevent Animal Cruelty Act (PACT) Signed

I played a tiny part in helping to push a petition into federal law by signing Sidney’s petition “Pass The Preventing Animal Cruelty (PACT) Act” on Change.org!!!  Good news…Yesterday, President Donald Trump signed the first ever U.S. federal legislation to tackle animal cruelty and torture – the PACT Act. In previous years, Congress let the PACT...

Is CBD Oil Safe For Your Pet?

I have been hearing so much about CBD Oil lately and sat down today to do some research on the benefits of giving it to your dog.  I have never tried it nor have I ever given CBD Oil to my dogs but after reading all the good things it can possibly do for your pet, I wanted to put a post together for you.   I wanted a reliable source to work from...

Health Risks Associated With Dogs Eating Poop

Health Risks Associated With Dogs Eating Poop

Thomas and I recently had a conversation with a friend about why dogs eat their own or other dog’s fecal matter and the risks involved.  Yes, we were talking about dog poop with a friend but that’s ok because he is not a dog owner and we were able to educate him just incase he were to ever decide to be a pet owner!  Set aside the fact that it is...

Can dogs eat turkey?

Can dogs eat turkey?

With Thanksgiving being next week, we are all busy grocery shopping and making plans for turkey day.  If you are like me and my family, our pets are a big part of our holiday celebration and we love to give them a little holiday treat.  Jake and Maggie do not get table scraps but a little bite of plain white meat won’t hurt them.  So, the...

Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Creamy Mashed Potatoes

I’ve been wanting to post my Mashed Potato recipe for a long time now but kept putting it off because it is just so easy and not much to it.  I’m that person who can cook a really hard meal and it comes out tasting scrumptious but can’t make boiled rice to save my life.  How can someone mess up rice??  Well…I can!  But, I’ve mastered these mashed...

How Dogs Benefit Children

How Dogs Benefit Children

I was fortunate to grow up in a family of animal lovers.  My parents bought a small farm that they renovated over the years and my farther fenced in acreage for two horses, three ponies, and two baby calves!  Of course, my sister and I, saved every stray cat and dog that showed up at our house.  We were taught that having an animal was hard work...

Butter Chicken Marsala

Butter Chicken Marsala

Anyone hungry for fried chicken and Portobello mushrooms???  I had every intention to make a true chicken marsala tonight but changed my mind and made a delicious Butter Chicken Marsala instead.  The chicken was tender with just the right amount of crisp!  The mushrooms and butter sauce added on top of the chicken melded the flavors together to...

A Dog’s Five Senses

A Dog’s Five Senses

As pet owners, we tend to assume that we are similar to our dog when comparing “our senses”.  But did you know that a dog’s senses are just like ours…but not!  What are the five senses and what is the most primary sense out of the five?  Dogs can Touch, See, Smell, Hear, and Taste but their smelling ability is rated top on the list!  My first...

Decoding Your Pet’s Body Language

Decoding Your Pet’s Body Language

It’s not always easy to know what our dogs are telling us. For those of us who have been around animals all our lives, we have a pretty good idea by their wagging tails, growls, licks, shaking, etc. but do we really??? We often don’t realize that “they” understand “us” better than we realize. Researchers in Budapest used magnets resonance imaging...

My pumpkin table!

My pumpkin table!

It is the first Friday of fall and the weather has been really nice.  The leaves are starting to drop but it's been a tad bit hotter than what I like this time of year.  I shouldn't be complaining but I like a little crisp in the air right about now.  If you read my last blog post about what I'm loving, you already know I started decorating...

What is Littermate Syndrome?

What is Littermate Syndrome?

When we lost our last 3 dogs, Thomas and I said we were going to take a break from being pet parents.   But after only a month, I started looking for another dog.  It didn’t matter to us where the dog came from or the breed.  I just knew that what was meant for us would show up in an unexpected way and into our lives came Jake and Maggie.  We had...

Benefits of yogurt for your dog

Benefits of yogurt for your dog

As I was writing my blog post on the frozen yogurt blueberries (see here), I made sure to make a note to talk about today's post and the benefits of yogurt for your dog. I want to clarify that I used plain, unflavored, non-fat greek yogurt which I did not state in Monday's post. I know that yogurt is great for digestive issues in humans but I...

Where were we?

Where were we?

I've been MIA on my blog posts but I've been here the whole time.  The problem is that I made my website using Weebly and they only allow me so many posts a month!  I had used up my allotted postings and then had to wait for a new month to begin.  Yes, I could upgrade, which I have but I'm not upgrading again.  Why you ask...well, I'm working...

Animal obesity

Animal obesity

If your pet is obese, are you guilty of animal neglect? If you ask me, I would say "YES" without a doubt...YES!  If you type "fat dog pic" into your browser, pictures of overweight animals will come up with videos that are supposed to be funny but in my opinion, they are not.  For me, seeing an animal under-nourished or over-nourished is, in my...

Snake skin prints are so in right now!

Snake skin prints are so in right now!

You all know how excited I was about my snake skin boots because I blogged about them last week (HERE) and now I've completed the outfit.  I typically shop everywhere to pull an outfit together.  If I get lucky which sometimes I do at Macy's, I can pull an outfit together pretty quick. My sister called to say Kohl's were having a sale (20% off...

Side effects of the Bordetella Shot

We recently got Jake and Maggie's shots updated (parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, Bordetella, and rabies).  We wanted to not only update their shots but to make sure they had the Bordetella vaccination because we will be taking them to Therapy Training and possibly Day Care.  I have never had a problem with any of my dogs experiencing any side...

Dental care for your pet

Dental care for your pet

I've had dogs all of my life and fortunately, I have never and hope to never (crossing my fingers) deal with dental problems with Jake and Maggie or any future animals I may adopt.  But many have and what does this all mean for you and your pet.  Animals hide their pain well and sometimes we don't even know anything is wrong.  A bad tooth can...

Doggie TMJ

Doggie TMJ

I was getting my hair done last week and my friend and hair dresser, who is a huge dog lover like I am, was telling me his dog was having problems with his mouth not closing properly when he ate.  He took him to the vet to find that he has Doggie TMJ!  I was so surprised by this and had to go home and do my research.  The Temporomandibular joint...

Is your dog’s urine killing your grass?

Is your dog’s urine killing your grass?

Have you ever experienced having a dog urinate on your grass and then finding a dead yellow spot in the grass the next day?  All of us pet owners have probably experienced that before which made me curious as to why this happens.  This happens because dog urine is rich in nitrogen, which is known to kill grass when concentrated amounts collect...

Is doggie daycare right for your pet?

Is doggie daycare right for your pet?

We recently took Jake and Maggie to Misty Pines Dog Park and I asked to see their facilities.  Thomas and I have always agreed that we would never board our dogs and we stand by that.  It is either for you or not and we just feel more comfortable not boarding.  The facilities were clean and the animals looked very well taken care of which...

Snake Skin Boots from 6pm.com

Snake Skin Boots from 6pm.com

Every spring and fall I clean out my closet and move my clothes and shoes around and I love doing this.  I once had a friend tell me I was crazy but honestly, it does a few things for me.  It makes me feel like I accomplished something and keeps me organized.  When my closet gets messy, it drives me nuts.  It also allows me to see what needs...

Can dogs have identical twins?

Can dogs have identical twins?

I was sitting around the table at Thomas' family's house and we were talking about my blog when his aunt asked me if dogs can be born twins.  I said that I thought so and was going to research it.  Turns out that dogs can be born twins and here is how.     "Jake and Maggie playing while I was getting ready to run errands".  "When Jake gets tired...

What are your rights when losing a pet?

What are your rights when losing a pet?

I first started researching the emotional toll it takes on a pet when you give it up simply because you do not want it.  There have been people in my life who have adopted an animal because they thought it was a good idea at the time only to turn around and give it up because it wasn't "working out" for them.  From lizards, to birds, to cats to...

Why foster a dog?

Why foster a dog?

First I have to say that I could never foster a dog....why?...because it would become mine.  I could never give the dog up.  I would end up with a whole house full of dogs so I admit it is not for me but there are a lot of amazing people out there who can.  Why foster a dog?...These are a few good reasons and if you are one of those people who...

Misty Pines Dog Park

Misty Pines Dog Park

I recently had a birthday and always joke that the entire month of August is my birthday.  Since that's the case, Thomas asked what I wanted to do this weekend and I said... spend the day with the dogs.  I suggested a fun-filled day of going to Misty Pines Dog Park, lunch at the Sewickley Hotel, and then home to relax before a dinner out...

Flowers and Sunshine

I started the “What I’m Loving” posts because these are things, people, and places that I find enjoyment in and want to share them with you.  We all lead busy lives and sometimes it is nice just to take a moment and try to enjoy what you have.  We lose things, find them again, sometimes in the most unique unsuspecting places.  Friendships come...

20 Ways to photograph a black dog

I can't tell you how many pictures I've taken of Maggie only to delete them because they didn't turn out right.  I don't have a problem with Jake. Adopt a shelter dog today!

Adopt a shelter dog today!

Hello! My name is Lumley! I am an extra, super, duper special pup. The staff here have become my family; they love me, they protect me, and they give me hope. I am dashingly handsome, but sometimes that's all anyone sees: my looks. They don't know that I have a lot of needs, some of them different than other dogs'. I love to be active, but I...

Pig Ears and Salmonella Poisoning

I follow a blog called Proud Dog Mom and recently received a post about Pig Ear Dog Treats Making Humans Sick.  The FDA is investigating and urging all pet owners to stop buying and feeding their pets the pig ears and urging retailers to stop selling them.  The CDC is now reporting 127 cases of human infection with Salmonella — 26 people have...

Horse Ownership

I typically blog about dog related topics but today I want to give you some insight into the equestrian world.  One of my fondest memories from my childhood was when my parents bought me my first horse.  We found Sparky and so my love for horses began.  My father built a barn and fenced in acreage to adopt Sparky and a horse for my sister named...

Sweet Sausage Pasta

Sweet Sausage Pasta

As I was saying in my last post, Thomas and I were having a lazy weekend here in Missouri and I didn't feel like going out.  The weather was cold, rainy, and snuggling under a nice warm blanket sounded so much better than being cold and wet.  So what did we do about dinner????  We had leftover ingredients from the  Margharita Pizza recipe, some...

Bobbi Jo’s Baked Beans

I have been looking over my recipe book and came across my baked beans recipe that I made when I had everyone over for Memorial Day last year.   I whipped up a little spread of hamburgers, hotdogs, marinated chicken, bratwurst, baked potatoes, baked beans, and Jalapeños poppers!  My sister brought the salad with her famous Italian dressing (gotta...

Homemade Sugar Cookies

Per my last post at www.twoaorablelabs.com on how to help the animal shelters (see here) during the holidays, I wanted to make homemade sugar cookies from a recipe my parents used when my sister and I was growing up.  When my sister and I were much younger, my parents would make sugar cookies with us and I always loved when it was time to whip...

Ooey Gooey Butter Cake

Ooey Gooey Butter Cake

St. Louis, MO is known for their Ooey Gooey Butter Cake which was made by accident and has became a staple in the city.  We spend time there (about 6 months out of the year) and always make a trip to our favorite bakery for some ooey gooey sweetness.  We are back home now and with Thanksgiving being tomorrow, I offered to make a dessert to bring...

Salmon Worcestershire

Salmon Worcestershire

I first have to say that I'm so proud of myself!!!  Why????  Because tonight, for the first time ever, I made salmon and all by myself to boot!  I'm not a lover of salmon but Thomas is and I wanted to make us a healthy dinner.  So off to the store I went in search of his favorite fish.  And...the only thing left were these 3 little pieces so I...

Three Cheese Ravioli

Three Cheese Ravioli

Thomas and I make homemade pasta every year for the holidays so I took a stab at making my own filling this year for our homemade ravioli.  I was a bit nervous because I have some pretty tough critics when it comes to taste testing but I past the test.  Thomas whipped up some delicious dough and my filing was tasty without being mushy.  With...

How to stain your front door.

How to stain your front door.

I finally got around to staining our front door.  Between all the rain this summer and me procrastinating in getting the door done, it was starting to look pretty bad!  We have a solid wood door that takes direct weather all year around so I got out the steel wool and paint supplies and went to work.  I like to paint and I love to stain but what...

Dogs and Raccoons

In my last post on Dogs and Armadillos, I promised I would talk about how to prevent raccoons on your property and what to do should your dog decide to go after one.  Here is something I did not know...raccoons will go after a cat to kill it just for sport.  A raccoon will fight a dog to let it die slowly.  The dog almost always loses the battle...

Every day I work with Jake and Maggie and we play "tricks" which involves them getting in my face at the exact time every day and me saying..."Do you want to play tricks?"  They immediately run to the mudroom so I can pull out the treats and then we go through every trick and command that they know.   One of the things that I've noticed from day...

Dogs and Armadillos

Dogs and Armadillos

I was talking to a friend who was telling me about three armadillos and a raccoon she found on her property and how curious her dog was about them.  This got us thinking about what would happen to her dog should the armadillos and raccoon (more about raccoons in a later blog) go into attack mode.  These are wild animals and their first instinct...

I was able to snap a photo before he laid his...

In the past when I had my last three, Bear, Bella, and Lady, I worked full time but always made sure they ate in the morning at 6:00 am and then when I got home at 5:30 pm.  Our schedule was that I would let them out first thing when we got up, fed them as soon a they came in, and let them out again before I left in the morning and then when I...

I have to write this blog because I’ve never experienced this before until I got my sweet little Jakie Poo!  I now have a little monster with Frito smelling paws and a nose that smells like honey (but that is a topic for another blog).   Does your fur baby’s paws smell like Corn chips? Is Foxglove poisonous to dogs and cats?

I took advantage of some down time in our schedule last week to get the mulch and landscape finished around our house.  I'm not an ace at landscape design and have to admit that I get a plan in place, head to the garden center and then get completely side tracked when I walk in and see all of the beautiful plants and flowers.  But this year, I...

Can dog's see ghosts?  This topic interests me because I have always wondered if my dogs could see spirits.  When I bought my first house, after only two weeks, I sensed I had a spirt of an older man.  He would visit from time to time but it never bothered me nor did my dogs ever give me any indication they could see him.  I even thought I might...

A friend recommended Fresh 'N Clean dog shampoo for Jake and Maggie.  She is a dog mommy and I trust her opinion so I put the pups in my Jeep and headed to Pet Supplies Plus! She was right.  It has a great smell, creates a full lather, and left the pups soft and silky.  I chose the 2-in-1 because our water here in Missouri is harder than back...

Weathering The Storm

Thomas and I are weathering the storm of having two Labrador puppies at one time.  The pups have learned so much already.  It is our responsibility to teach them everything and stay on top of things but at 7 months old, they can easily slip back into “forgetting” what they’ve been taught. What Is “Irresponsible” vs. “Responsible” Dog Breeding?

What Is “Irresponsible” vs. “Responsible” Dog Breeding?

Responsible dog breeders use simple genetic cheek swabs to look for hidden conditions that may have found their way into a breed.  If the dog is a carrier, then they will be bred with a clear dog.  This preserves the breed while ensuring that puppies are free of known genetic problems.  Irresponsible breeders want to make a buck, breed the...

Why You Should Never Buy From A Puppy Mill

Why You Should Never Buy From A Puppy Mill

My neighbor in Missouri had the most adorable little Shih Tzu I had ever seen.  He had this quirky look with a droopy left eye and the sweetest personality.  I never asked what was wrong with his face but when she proceeded to tell me where she adopted him and what the “farm” looked like, I realized she had adopted from a puppy mill.  As I stood...

The Breakdown And Dysfunction Of An Animals Mind

The Breakdown And Dysfunction Of An Animals Mind

Rene’ Descartes, the 17th century philosopher and mathematician once quotes that animals were not so much organisms but machines, biological devices with no more awareness than a clock.  “Animals eat without pleasure, cry without pain; growing without knowing it.  They desire nothing, fear nothing,” he wrote.  I am in complete disagreement with...

We recently took Jake and Maggie to Misty Pines Dog Park and I asked to see their facilities.  Thomas and I have always agreed that we would never board our dogs and we stand by that.  It is either for you or not and we just feel more comfortable not boarding.  The facilities were clean and the animals looked very well taken care of which...
